LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - Nov. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Dog is Good for Patriots, a year-long fundraiser to benefit Freedom Service Dogs of America, will kick off on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2014. The Dog is Good (DIG) for Patriots Project was developed to raise awareness of the important work dogs do for military veterans and others with disabilities. Created in partnership with Freedom Service Dogs, whose mission is to rescue dogs from shelters to train them for service, the Project fits with the Dog is Good commitment to be socially responsible and philanthropic. Dog is Good has developed a reputation for giving generously to animal welfare organizations throughout the United States.

Leveraging social media and retail relationships throughout the country, The DIG for Patriots Project will publicly inform and showcase what is perhaps the ultimate connection between dogs and humans – providing “freedom”. The Project will last one year, from Veterans Day of 2014 to Veterans Day of 2015. Over the course of the year the Project will also afford an opportunity to recognize many other ways in which dogs positively impact human lives.

Lending a paw in promoting DIG for Patriots is well-known Freedom Service Dog, Gander. Rescued from a shelter in Pueblo, Colorado where his human was born, Gander was trained in a women's prison at Canon City, Colorado. He was later selected for training by Freedom Service Dogs and paroled to his “battle buddy, “ Lon Hodge. He now travels the country with Lon who has PTSD and autoimmune mobility issues. They advocate for veteran suicide prevention and service dog awareness.

Sharan Wilson, Executive Director of Freedom Service Dogs of America feels “grateful to be selected as this year’s Dog is Good for Patriots Project benefactor. We strive to train and pair as many clients with service dogs as possible. The support of Dog is Good will enable us to pair that many more military veterans on our wait list with their service dog this year. “

According to Jon Kurtz, a military veteran and co-founder of Dog is Good, “This project allows us to be personally and directly involved in advocating and raising money for a cause we believe in.“

To launch the program, Dog is Good will donate $10 from the sale of each Dog is Good for Patriots T-shirt on www.dogisgood.com through November 11, 2014.
