Home Ventilation & Indoor Air Quality Discussed in New Online Video

PHOENIX - Nov. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of their latest educational video.  Their newest production discusses how home ventilation impacts people’s indoor air quality (IAQ).

Indoor pollutants can sometimes accumulate to levels that can pose health and comfort issues when too little outdoor air enters a home.  One approach to lowering the concentration of indoor air pollutants in a home is to increase the amount of outdoor air coming in. Outdoor air enters and leaves a house via infiltration, natural ventilation and mechanical ventilation.

“Homes with inadequate ventilation may see an increase in mold, bacteria, chemicals such as VOCs, radon, allergens, elevated levels of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, and other pollutants that can have an adverse impact on building occupants,” said Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network. “Many residential heating and cooling systems, including some forced air heating systems, do not mechanically bring fresh air into the house. Opening windows and doors, operating window or attic fans, or running a window air-conditioner with the vent control open can increase the ventilation rate and help to dilute potential indoor pollutants. We hope this new video helps to shed some light on how ventilation and IAQ are related.”
