Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala (Dr. Huz) is part of the promoter family of the Wockhardt Group, a leading healthcare group. A MBA from Yale University, Dr. Huz as he is fondly called is Trustee and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wockhardt Foundation, a social development arm of Wockhardt Group.

In 2008, Dr. Huz resolved to undertake his full efforts towards the service of the underprivileged. Wockhardt Foundation was formed. Today, Wockhardt Foundation runs several programmes in health, sanitation, education and water across the breadth of the country.

Contribution towards Bio-Toilet and Sanitation

Dr. Khorakiwala has headed the Bio Toilet programme of Wockhardt Foundation. Under his leadership, around 200 bio toilets have been installed, the aim of which is to ensure pure waste discharge from a toilet, thus playing a critical role in preventable healthcare. Dr. Huz has won numerous awards and is associated with several social causes.

The India Sanitation Summit ‘Sanitation for All – Toilet First’ is aligned to ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ (Clean India Initiative) of our visionary Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’

Under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ (2014-2019) Rs. 2 lakh will be spent for construction of about 11 crore 11 lakh toilets in the country in five years. Technology will be promoted and used on a large scale to convert waste into wealth in rural India in the forms of bio-fertilizer and different forms of energy.

The Govt will soon launch an intensive information, education and communication (IEC) campaign at an estimated cost of Rs 1,800 crore to generate awareness about the need for cleanliness and to bring about much-needed behavioural changes for achieving the goal of 'Swachh Bharat'. Swachh Bharat Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 October this year on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.
