Inn at Nye Beach Designated a Platinum Certified Green Lodging Property

NEWPORT, Ore. - Nov. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- Inn at Nye Beach was recently designated a Platinum Certified Green Lodging Property by environmental nonprofit Audubon International. The inn is the first in Oregon to receive certification from Audubon International and has earned its highest designation.

The hotel’s environmental highlights include rooftop solar panels, participation in soap recycling program Clean the World, dual-flush toilets in guest rooms, tankless water heaters, in room recycling bins, use of an electric lawnmower, and carpet made from recycled bottles.

“From the moment the hotel was opened, conservation and sustainability were at the forefront of planning,” Stephen Davis, General Manager of the Inn at Nye Beach said. “We knew that having a property as special and unique as this was going to require extra thought in to how we operate. Everything from the methods used for processing laundry and cleaning in the rooms, to the toiletries and amenities, had to represent who we are as a sustainable company.”

Inn at Nye Beach is one of 59 Audubon International Certified Green Lodging Properties, and it is one of 10 properties to achieve Platinum Certification. Certified properties are rated in the categories of Communication and Education; Waste Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling; Water Conservation, Energy Efficiency, and Indoor Air Quality. To earn certification, all properties receive a site visit by an Audubon International staff member and undergo a recertification process every three years.

“The environmental ethic at Inn at Nye Beach is evident as soon as you step onto the property,” said Katie Hopkins, Associate Director of Outreach & Communications at Audubon International. “From the use of solar panels to communication with guests about green initiatives, Inn at Nye Beach is setting a great example for other lodging properties.”
