Follow on Google News | Rock Church Expects to Serve 20,000 at Toys for Joy 2014By: Rock Church What: The 18th annual Toys for Joy Christmas event is just around the corner Founded by Rock Church Senior Pastor Miles McPherson, the intention of this event is to bring the 1 in 5 San Diego children living in poverty the simple joy of having Christmas with their families. For the past 17 years, families have started lining up before sunrise for an opportunity to pick up toys, clothing, and groceries for the holidays. Now more than ever, Toys For Joy has become a tradition that San Diego families count on every December, meeting the needs of thousands. Toys for Joy is more than just a toy. Aside from providing children and their families a toy for each child ages 0-11, families also receive clothing, groceries and meals for their entire family. Last year Toys for Joy gave over 9,000 toys, 195,000 articles of clothing, and 8,700 bags of groceries to attendees! The event is expanding to three sites this year in East County, North County, and Central San Diego, and expects to serve more than 20,000 people in San Diego County! “Christmas is a time when God showed His love for us, and we’re ready to show God’s love in the communities where we live and serve. That’s the purpose of the church,” shared McPherson about Toys for Joy To make a difference in the life of a child this Christmas there are three ways to be part of Toys for Joy: ■ Volunteer.
