Seniors played a big role in the GOP Congressional sweep, says AMAC

We need to use that political clout to compel focus on issues of importance to voters of all ages

Nov. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- America’s older voters played a significant role in this week’s GOP sweep of the mid-term Congressional elections, according to Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens.

“Political scientists have called senior citizens the country’s most reliable voters and they proved it on Tuesday.  They sent a resounding message to those who had hoped to change the ideological direction of the U.S.  In fact, an analysis of voter turnout by Bloomberg news was headlined ‘The Senior Citizen Sweep’ just hours after the last polls closed.”

Weber sent a message to the members of his senior advocacy organization and to all older Americans after the elections.  He exhorted them to continue using their political clout as a means of compelling their lawmakers to focus on issues such as Social Security Reform, the financial viability of Medicare and the replacement of Obamacare with a friendlier, common sense alternative.

“These issues may appear, at first glance, to be of little interest to younger generations, but they are, in fact, of critical importance to Americans of all ages.  The warnings that Social Security and Medicare are facing major fiscal challenges in the coming years threaten not only senior citizens but their children and grandchildren as well.  The fiasco that is Obamacare has had a damaging impact on the lives of us all.  Look at the negative impact the law has had on job creation, the cost of health insurance and access to care.”

The AMAC chief noted that pre-election and post-election polling showed that nothing was more important than the economy and healthcare for voters this week.

“They need and want more full-time jobs, not the Obamacare promise of part-time employment.  They need and want financial security now and in the future, a big part of which is the promise of Social Security benefits in retirement.  And, they need and want affordable access to healthcare, the kind we had before the ideologues in Washington foisted their progressive facsimiles on us.”
