Suicide Goes Viral in Indie Film ‘7 Day Sam’

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Nov. 5, 2014 - PRLog -- San Francisco, CA – November 5th, 2014 – Chromosome 16 Productions has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for the short film, 7 Day Sam, a psychological drama based on an original screenplay by writer/director Michelle Fatale. The film tells the story of a troubled teenage girl who discovers a viral video blogger calling herself 7 Day Sam; an anonymous young woman threatening to take her life live on the internet in 1 weeks’ time.

Narcissism, apathy and the over-medication of prescription drugs set the stage for a story that reflects an all too common scenario in the life of real teens and adults alike.

Fatale states, “The story is honest, real and represents a very critical issue in our society that doesn't have accurate representation. I want a chance to provide the audience with an alternative perspective.”

Fatale was initially inspired to write the script by a similar, real-life situation. “The idea for Sam came after reading an article about an anonymous woman who claimed she was going to commit suicide and was documenting the last three months of her life on a public blog.”

Intrigued by what a similar situation could evoke in today’s social media fueled world, Fatale ups the stakes by focusing on the character of Jessica who identifies with Sam as her personal life begins to unravel.

The film has just launched its own crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter in an effort to raise funds for both production & post-production costs. The film’s executive producer, Justin Berger (Chromosome 16 Productions, HKL Films) says "Kickstarter, and websites like it, have opened up doors for independent filmmakers that previously never existed. It allows us somewhat of a level playing field to present our unique and original ideas to the public and ask them to support something they believe in that the mainstream may otherwise shy away from."

7 Day Sam is slated to begin production in early 2015.
