100 Clients and Counting! New Avenue is Making an Impact

EMERYVILLE, Calif. - Nov. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- The 100th New Avenue client will soon kickoff their project with the design phase, transforming his home for shared housing and multigenerational living.

Burt, the homeowner from Oakland, CA, approached New Avenue with the idea of adding a 650 sq. ft. accessory dwelling to their home. “We wanted to blend a modern look with the look of our main house. We’d like indoor-outdoor blended spaces, clever storage, multi-use rooms and a fresh, modern aesthetic.”

Specializing in accessory dwellings - such as an in-law apartment, a backyard cottage or a converted garage - New Avenue developed a software platform to bring efficiency and transparency to the home renovation and transformation process.  Since 2009 the technology startup has struck a sweet chord with homeowners throughout the San Francisco Bay Area region, which has demonstrated a growing interest in creating more housing opportunities. Recently, New Avenue placed in San Francisco Business Times’ Top 100 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in the Bay Area.

Kevin Casey, CEO and Founder, realized early in his career the opportunity in this type of shared housing. While earning his MBA at UC Berkeley, he discovered that 30% of all homeowners wanted an accessory dwelling but did not pursue the housing option. Homeowners either didn’t know how to or they thought it was too difficult.  With their integrated project delivery process, New Avenue empowers and educates homeowners, allowing for easier collaboration with their architect and contractor, saving them time and money.  For example, year-to-date, 100% of New Avenue’s construction projects came in either on or under budget.

Burt sums up why he decided to pursue an accessory dwelling with New Avenue, “Primarily, we seek an awesome environment for us to live and raise a family. For us, that means living within our separate house but adjacent to friends and family that live both ‘next door’ and ‘part of this space’. We’d also like the space to inspire the inhabitants and visitors, present an architecture for high-density, social living that is compelling to the modern eye and more importantly, that feels family and community-oriented”
