Aseptika Wins Hunts Post Business Innovation Award for health at home self-monitoring solution

HUNTINGDON, U.K. - Nov. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- Aseptika Limited (http://www.activ8rlives.com/) was selected as the Winner from three finalists for the category of Business Innovation at the Hunts Post Business Innovation Awards 2014 (http://www.huntsbusinessawards.co.uk/awards-archive/2014-awards/), held at the glittering Awards Ceremony on the evening of Friday, 31^st October at Burgess Hall, St Ives, Cambridgeshire.

Aseptika is a healthcare company developing a self-monitoring service in the form of a home-use sputum test, simple self-monitoring devices and an online user interface known as Activ8rlives (http://www.activ8rlives.com/). Our niche focus is predicting the onset of lung infections (http://www.activ8rlives.com/solutions/clinical-trials/) in people with long-term respiratory conditions. Patients with severe airway disease are often chronically infected by a bacterium, despite attempts to treat these infections, complete eradication can be difficult. Flare-ups or exacerbations of these infections are common, leading to deterioration in symptoms, which can result in 3-4 prolonged hospital admissions per year. Repeated exacerbations result in the loss of lung function reducing quality of life, are very disruptive, costly and can result in premature death.

The 2014 Competition was organized by TICBioMed and had the endorsement of the Health and Wellbeing Unit of DG CONNECT of the European Commission. Central to the Company’s “hospital-at-home” concept, is a test in which the patient measures the level of virulence of the bacteria living in their lungs which from time to time, flare into a full and repeated chest infections.

Aseptika has been shortlisted as finalists for three business innovation awards towards the end of 2014. The entries were for the Company’s respiratory hospital-at-home solution and biomarker test, which is currently running as the SENSOR (http://www.activ8rlives.com/sensor) clinical trial with a group of volunteer patients that suffer from COPD or severe Asthma in the Portsmouth area.
