By: South Orange Maplewood Community Coalition on Race The Price of Paradise promises to speak directly to the concerns of residents in communities like ours—older diverse suburbs with tax stresses, concerns about schools, and aging infrastructures that threaten the American dream and the viability of stable integration. It is a passionate call for strategies to create a more unified America in which Troutt envisions regional equity policies and practices that will serve to undo metropolitan inequities that can be seen in urban centers and their greater suburbs across the country. This year, guests will meet author David Trout, hear him read excerpts from his book and engage in a community book discussion. According to Coalition on Race Program Director, Audrey Rowe, “This book will provide an excellent launching point for a thoughtful and engaging discussion about how our lives in Maplewood/South Orange are tied to what happens in Newark and other New Jersey communities.” Over the past 17 years, the South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race has become a valuable resource to both towns with its vision to achieve and sustain the benefits of a thriving, racially integrated and truly inclusive community that serves as a model for the nation. Two Towns, One Book is another noteworthy event designed to encourage residents from different races and backgrounds to read and discuss a selected book that is related to an issue or experience faced by the entire community. The South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race is also proud to announce that, keeping in line with its community initiatives, the official partners for the Two Towns, One Book event are [words] Bookstore (http://wordsbookstore.com), the Maplewood Memorial Library (http://www.maplewoodlibrary.org) and the South Orange Public Library (http://www1.youseemore.com/ FOR MEDIA INQUIRIES AND INTERVIEWS CONTACT: South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race Publicist Keeyah Johnson, All Things Publicity & Events at Hello@AllThingsKeeyah.com. ### About South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race: The South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race is a nationally recognized non-profit organization committed to building a unique, suburban community that is free of racial segregation in housing patterns and community involvement. The Coalition was founded in 1996 by a diverse group of citizens concerned about stagnating property values, a perceived decline in the quality of local public schools and isolated acts of racial intolerance. Over seventeen years, the Coalition has developed programs that promote the advantages of living in a racially inclusive community where all aspects of community life are equitably shared The organization is run by a volunteer, racially representative Board of Trustees that also includes ex officio representatives from both municipalities. The Trustees chair several committees and task groups staffed by community volunteers of varied races, faiths, and economic backgrounds who have an expressed commitment to achieving and sustaining the benefits of a thriving, racially integrated and truly inclusive community. Community Coalition on Race programs and activities serve all the residents of Maplewood and South Orange, as well as surrounding communities that seek support and advice on intentional integration strategies. www.twotowns.org End
