André Schmitz is 'European Cultural Manager of the Year 2014'

André Schmitz, former State Secretary of Culture of the city Berlin is the 'European Cultural Manager of the Year 2014'. Tonight, the Cultural Brand Awards were presented for the ninth time at the 'Night of Cultural Brands' at the Staatsoper.

BERLIN - Nov. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- From 2006 to 2014, André Schmitz was successfully responsible for what is probably the largest city cultural budget in the world, in the amount of 428.6 million euros, which grew by about another 85 euros during his tenure as Secretary of State. By means of a wise personnel policy, André Schmitz was able to bring major artists, such as Ulrich Khuon, Prof. Jürgen Flimm and Barrie Kosky to Berlin and to consolidate Berlin's cultural institutions such as the Friedrichstadt-Palast. A heartfelt concern of cultural politician André Schmitz was remembering the era of National Socialism in Berlin and Germany. An example of this was the implementation of the nationally and internationally acclaimed theme year, 'Diversity Destroyed' in 2013, which featured more than 1,000 events. In addition, André Schmitz dedicated much of his professional work to exemplary projects in political and cultural education as, for example, the Chairman of the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe, which promotes the development of young people as politically responsible personalities, according to the jury's statement.

The 31-member jury of experts from business, politics, culture and media, under the chairmanship of Prof. Oliver Scheytt, President of the Association for Cultural Policy, also honoured other prize winners this evening:
