LAS VEGAS - Nov. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- LAS VEGAS – The Nevada International Women’s Forum (NVIWF) selected Tina Quigley, general manager of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), to receive its prestigious Carolyn M. Sparks Founders Award. The NVIWF is the local chapter of the International Women's Forum (IWF) that advances leadership across careers, cultures and continents by connecting the world’s most preeminent women of significant and diverse achievement.

According to the Nevada International Women’s Forum (NVIWF), its Founders Award, now in its fourth year, “honors a professional woman who has established herself in her sphere of interest.” Prior recipients include women who have proven themselves outstanding leaders in their field, including Las Vegas City Manager Betsy Fretwell and Julie Wilcox, deputy general manager of administration for the Southern Nevada Water Authority, as well as Terri Janison and Alexia Vernon. The NVIWF annually honors two women with the award in specific categories. This year, Quigley won in the large business/government category and local attorney, Gina Bongiovi was honored in the small business/entrepreneur category.

NVIWF selects the Founders Award recipient based on guidelines including the highest level of leadership, intellect and accomplishments. According to the group’s criteria, award recipients must have substantive professional experience and significant accomplishments as well as superior intellectual ability, leadership and strength of character.

With nearly 20 years of experience in the transportation industry, Quigley has served as the RTC general manager since 2012. She joined the RTC as deputy general manager in 2005 after serving in a management role at Clark County Department of Aviation.

As general manager of the RTC, she oversees one of the few agencies in the country responsible for public transportation, roadway planning and funding, and traffic management under one roof.  Under her leadership, the National Transit Database named the RTC the most efficient transit provider in the nation, and the agency is becoming one of the most effective transportation organizations in the country due to its strong partnership in the private and public sector.

“Quigley’s vision for and pursuit of a coordinated, multi-modal transportation network throughout Southern Nevada was a key element in her consideration for the award,” said Joanne Blystone, Founder’s Award Chair for the NVIWF.

For example, she leads a diverse partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), local business community, resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, and local transportation companies, including the Monorail and taxi/limo operators, to develop a first-of-its-kind business plan known as the Transportation Investment Business Plan. The plan will outline a transportation network to efficiently move residents and visitors in and around the busy resort corridor. She also continues to broaden public transit options to improve workforce mobility and advance roadway construction projects that support continued economic development of the Las Vegas valley and improved commutes

As the award recipient, the NVIWF underwrote Quigley’s recent attendance at the International Women’s Forum World Leadership Conference, which attracts women from more than 50 countries and are the world’s leading architects, advocates, catalysts and pioneers of change. This year’s conference was held Oct. 29-31 in Atlanta, Ga. At the conference, attendees discuss best practices for leadership, management and success in their various industries as well as critical issues affecting the global economy. The conference also provides attendees with opportunities to network with other female leaders that can provide additional support long after the conference concludes.
