KOKOMO, Ind. - Nov. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- On October 11 and 18, six members of Local 615 of the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) volunteered their time and skills to the Serena Youth Center.

The Serena Youth Center is a new Coordinated Assistance Ministries (CAM) shelter that will serve young women in the Kokomo area who are in need of shelter and a place to live.

Local 615 donated a total of 56 hours of labor to do general maintenance at the new shelter, located in the 1700 block of South Washington Street, along with miscellaneous items needed to do the work. Work performed included door, gutter and roof repairs. They also assembled five desks and beds.

The carpenters were honored to give their time to this cause. “I love giving back to the community,” said Mike Lykins, second year apprentice. “God forbid if I were ever to need help, I would hope someone would be there to lend a hand.”

“This project really appealed to us because it directly effects the youth of our community,” said Chet Fincher, IKORCC Representative. “It must be incredibly difficult for these young women, and we want to contribute in any way we can to help promote a successful future for them. We are proud to be able to help the Serena Youth Center with this great mission.”
