ARDSLEY, N.Y. - Nov. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Make-A-Wish® Hudson Valley will host the fourth annual  ‘Yoga For Wishes’ benefit from 9:30 am to 1 PM, Sunday, November 23 at The Garrison in Garrison, NY.

All proceeds from the Yoga-thon will help the Make-A-Wish ® chapter fulfill its mission of granting wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Currently, the chapter is working on more than 165 pending wishes with the average cost of a wish ranging between $7,500 – $10,000.

Participants will be asked to solicit donations from family and friends before the event to support their participation.  These efforts will culminate in a three-hour yoga experience, taught by two yoga masters—Neva Goldstein and Lela Damico of Cortlandt Manor, NY.   The class is appropriate for all levels of students with a combination of resting, restorative and moderately active poses, including a mid-session break.

“The process of having a wish granted gives these children something to look forward to - giving them a sense of hope, and the strength they need to fight the battle they are faced with,” said Goldstein. “A wish gives them something to focus on outside the world of medicine, doctors and hospitals, allowing them to enjoy being children again.”

Last year more than 45 people participated in the benefit and helped raise over $20,000

Neva Goldstein and her husband Howard have been making a difference in the lives of Wish Children since 2007.   Together they have spent countless hours volunteering their time as Wish Granters and raising money in support of the Foundation’s mission.  Together, they have raised over $150,000 to help make wishes come true.   In addition, Neva volunteers at Northern Westchester Hospital Center, teaching yoga to cancer survivors and their caregivers.  Neva and Howard also volunteer their time as camp counselors for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for children and their families coping with cancer, sickle cell anemia, and other serious illnesses.

About Make-A-Wish ® Hudson Valley

Make-A-Wish® grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Since its inception in 1986, the chapter has granted wishes to over 2,200 children in the communities it serves. A primary objective is to make sure that every child eligible for a wish receives a wish. Although the child is the main focus of the wish, Make-A-Wish involves the entire family so they can all enjoy a happy, carefree experience with no strings attached. This allows everyone in the family an opportunity to share in the child’s dream and to fully participate in a positive wish experience. The wish experience is a combined community effort involving volunteers, staff, donors and medical professionals to make each wish come true. The Chapter serves Delaware, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties.
