Report4Me Launches Beta of Innovative Service to Thwart Hackers and Botnets

Oct. 31, 2014 - PRLog -- Stockholm, Sweden

Swedish start-up Report4Me has launched an open beta of its SaaS product that automates network abuse reporting, Re- port4Me.com. The product uses log data from web servers to identify network spam, such as automated hacking attempts from botnets, and reports the assailants so that they can be shut down by their ISPs.

Report4Me gives beta users a free account for 2 years, and plans to release the finished product early in 2015.

“Report4Me.com was born out of frustration over the sad state of online security. A lot of focus has been put on stopping email spam, but most malicious traffic targeting web servers is still going unreported, and botnets continue to look for vulnerable servers to assimilate”, says founder Patrik Johansson.

The company’s long term mission is to fight network spam and cripple hackers by shooting down the drone machines that make up their botnets.

Historically the process of reporting hacking attempts aimed at servers has been left up to system administrators who have had to individually look up each IP address used for the attacks and then communicate directly with the corresponding ISP, with small hope that the ISP would respond by shutting the attacker down. Report4Me aims to completely automate this process and build up trust with ISPs in order to have a larger share of the abuse dealt with.

“We believe that it is every server administrator’s duty to report the enormous amount of network spam that reaches their servers every day. That’s the only way we can diminish the problem of botnets trying to spread like cancer – but until now it’s been too laborious to do such reporting.”, argues mr Johansson.

Report4Me sets out to challenge the hackers by:

• Handling all reporting and communications with ISPs for its users, making it easier than ever to report network spam.

• Raising awareness of malicious traffic on the Internet and common best practices in IT security. Report4Me users get security recommendations and statistics showing the frequency with which attacks happen on their server.

• Communicating and building long term relationships with ISPs to help them pinpoint compromised machines on their networks, thus helping ISPs to help their customers whose computers have been compromised for use in botnets.

• Making it easy to start with reporting attackers by not asking users to install any proprietary software, but instead relying on open source applications such as Logwatch.

About Report4Me

Report4Me is a bootstrapped company started 2013 in Stockholm, one of the hottest start-up cities in Europe. The company focuses on network abuse reporting, a criminally overlooked part of automated log analysis. Other companies in log analysis include Splunk, Sumo Logic, LogEntries and Loggly, none of which focuses on abuse reporting.

Report4Me was started by Patrik Johansson, a veteran developer and system administrator, who one day woke up from an uneasy sleep, realizing that he had to start fighting those bots that haunted his servers and filled his log files.
