PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Oct. 31, 2014 - PRLog -- Portsmouth, NH, October 22, 2014 - The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF) is a nonprofit organization established to promote and regulate patient safety in outpatient settings.

AAAASF centers are highly regulated. They annually assess the performance of member surgery centers through the inspection process and submitted data to demonstrate that the outpatient facility is safe and convenient for patients of all ages. Harsh penalties are imposed when standards are not met. The benefit of maintaining membership is for the facility to independently demonstrate to patients that their facility is safe and meets the gold standard for quality patient care.

The American Board of Plastic Surgery requires member plastic surgeons to operate in AAAASF certified facilities. Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center has been accredited by AAAASF at the highest level since 2002, the first on the seacoast of New Hampshire. They have a proud record of remaining current in AAAASF certification for 12 years running.

Patients now commonly travel great distances to find the best surgeon for their procedure.  The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons(ISAPS) has instituted standards of safety, called Global Certification, for patients who travel internationally to see their chosen surgeons. Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center is one of  less than 20 facilities in the world to obtain this Global Certification.

Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center uses only board certified anesthesiologists and is able to offer IV sedation or general anesthesia, for which separate and additional levels of certification have also been met. They meet and exceed the strictest standards of safety and equipment met by hospitals.

Dr. Lawrence Gray, Medical Director at Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center, sets his own personal standards of excellence for his facility and staff, which are not required. The registered nurses assigned to the operating rooms are certified in advanced cardiac care and life support. Recovery room nurses remain with the patient for his or her entire experience.  The nursing staff  belong to the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Nurses, and Skin Wellness Center staff are members of the Society of Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialists.  The registered nurses at Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center are also Certified Plastic Surgical Nurses, certified by the Plastic Surgery Nursing Certification Board.

AAAASF, in their mission to ensure the delivery of safety and quality patient care, further recommends that patients follow these safety guidelines prior to any surgery: Be their own health care advocates.
