PORTLAND, Ore. - Oct. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Tacoma speculative fiction author and literary activist Robert A. Boyd announced today that The Written Wyrd will formally release two science fiction novels and a short story collection at the Orycon science fiction convention.

This will take place in a 'Book Release Room Party', a tradition in speculative fiction.  The party will be held in mister Boyd's hotel room on both Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.  The public is invited for refreshments, excerpt readings, and discussion on speculative fiction in general.

The three works, all completed in 2014, cover a range of literary interests:

* Diplomacy's End: The d'enchia Incident

 This completes the 'Diplomacy' trilogy, a humorous first contact story line as seen from the aliens' point of view and written as a lurid tell-all memoir by a team of diplomats trying to maintain relations with the humans.

* Deus Ex Machina

 This is a collection of eleven short stories: humorous parodies of epic and heroic fantasy subverted to mock this overworked genre.  From redneck elves to moronic Heroes to a vegetarian vampire, these tales tell it 'like we'd love to see it told, just once.'

* Playing God

 This is a combination drama and romance.  The story follows Brenda Hayward, a  young centerfold model in 1975 who has an encounter with an elderly man claiming to come from 2015.  She goes on to become a nurse working in India.  When she returns home in 2015, now age 60, she meets the mysterious Professor White again.  It turns out he is running a top secret temporal research project, which appalls her.  While they are talking, an experiment goes terribly wrong, resulting in temporal chaos.  They are forced to work together despite their differences to find an answer to save reality and allow them to escape.

These works, and others, are available through The Written Wyrd's web site in PDF and ePub format, in Kindle from Kindle Direct Publishing, and in Trade Paperback from Amazon.

These works by The Written Wyrd are available on request for reviews.  Please contact the trust through the addresses below.

ABOUT SPECULATIVE FICTION

"Speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, and horror) is the popular literature of ideas," Mr. Boyd stated.  "It asks 'why?', 'what will this lead to?', and 'is there a better way?' in a variety of forms which appeal to the mass market reader.  In this time when there is so much pressure for mindless conformity, encouraging people to think is more critical than ever.  This is what distinguishes Speculative Fiction from all other forms of popular literature."

ABOUT ORYCON

Orycon is one of the largest and most active speculative fiction conventions held in the Pacific Northwest.  Spec fi enthusiasts gather for social activities, class programs, and to socialize with fellow speculative fiction enthusiasts.  2014 will be the 36th year for Orycon, to be held November 7th through 9th at the Lloyd Center Doubletree hotel, in Portland, Oregon.
