March of Joy - poetry by John Mc Guckin

He dedicates this book to a hospitalized girl - to Joy Quigley, as well as to all the children and staff in the Royal Victoria Hospital for sick children, Belfast, and the workers in charity shops throughout the world.

In life truth is barbed
Truth is mine made to suit me
Truth is the core fact

Joy

There she runs, not a care in the world.
The joy this little girl expresses, represses
the painful fact of a deadly illness. Joy’s
strength in the face of severe adversity denies
the insolence of youth being ravaged by sickness.

Whimsical and infectious is her laughter and happiness.
Joy shouldn’t have to face the world of reality
at such a tender age. Joy, joy to the world is the
message expressed by this gracious child.
Would that we could sweep her up and cry joy joy
to you you’re an inspirational spirit to us all whilst
weeping and wishing that Joy’s running will never falter.

Joy’s playground is full of strong and beautiful children.
Everyone of them is an inspirational tribute to the staff and
all who visit the Royal Victoria Hospital for sick children.
Everyone shout hurrah to little Joy Quigley and all her friends.
Wish them well and think of them in your prayers today.
