VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Oct. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Vancouver, BC — October 29, 2014 — CounterPath Corporation  (TSX: CCV), a developer of award-winning desktop, tablet and mobile VoIP software products and solutions, today announced that it has been awarded patent No. US 8848880, by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Titled “Inter-System Communication”, this patent outlines a methodology for coupling a wireless telecommunication network and a data network using a gateway such that a user can access equivalent levels of service in both networks. More specifically, inter-system communication, as described in this patent, refers to the ability to pass messages, to establish two-way voice communication, or to share contact and presence information between users on disparate networks and/or voice systems.  The award of this patent further highlights CounterPath’s strong commitment to Research and Development (‘R&D’) and to maintaining its position as a key industry innovator in the Unified Communications software space, as demonstrated by [26] issued patents and pending patent applications.

“CounterPath is on the leading edge of the unified communications industry,” said Donovan Jones, President and CEO of CounterPath. “We envision a world of seamless communication between end-users, regardless of the underlying networks employed.  This patent further strengthens our intellectual property portfolio, and positions us to launch proprietary voice, messaging and presence services that traverse disparate networks, eliminating barriers to communication and increasing employee productivity.”
