Follow on Google News | Utah’s RAMP Sports Finds More Options with Domestic ManufacturingPark City outdoor sports manufacturer represent Utah on "This Built America"
By: AOL/This Built America For decades, America’s ski industry has moved production overseas. So when RAMP founders Mike and Edie Kilchenstein realized they needed to make a radical business decision and stop sourcing from Taiwan in 2012, they turned to Utah’s mountains for inspiration and as a place to build their factory. “In Taiwan you have an army making skis,” Mike Kilchenstein explains. “But no one had ever skied, no one had ever been on a snowboard. Some hadn’t even seen snow.” To compete against bigger brands, he knew he had to bring production to the Beehive State. That change in business model turned RAMP from a craft brand into a manufacturer of American-made skis, snowboards and even skateboards.
