Second Season for Herbert Carrot and Swede Line for Pinguin

Oct. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Pinguin Foods in King’s Lynn, Norfolk have just started their second season with their swede and carrot processing line designed, manufactured and installed by Herbert Engineering, the Cambridgeshire based specialist in handling systems for food processors.

Pinguin specialises in producing freshly harvested vegetables and fruit that preserve their original quality. They process some 400,000 tonnes per year at production sites throughout Europe and export to 90 countries.

The process friendly stainless steel line receives, cleans, extracts haulm, de-stones, flume washes and grades the crop by size and also incorporates a water treatment system that dramatically reduces Pinguin’s working season with an increase in volume processed.

The line has the capacity to handle as much as 20 tonnes of produce per hour and is operational 24/7. As well as increasing throughput and quality of produce, Pinguin have been able to save on labour costs.

Herbert’s Glen Burt says: “This is an outstanding installation that is working very much to the customer’s satisfaction. It has been designed in an existing building to save the customer costs and, as part of the installation, we decommissioned and re-commissioned the line and handled the integration of their existing control system.”

As part of the package Herbert supplied a mini version of the main line with a bypass facility for the bean and carrot line for Pinguin, which includes a new intake and hedgehog system for the extraction of haulm, roots and other debris, as well as a new manual inspection area at the plant.

A full water treatment plant was supplied including a Lamella separator, cyclone separator and press.
