LONG BEACH, N.Y. - Oct. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- Who: Goldie Steinberg, 114-year-old resident, Grandell Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Ms. Steinberg’s family and friends,  Grandell Rehabilitation & Nursing Center staff members

What: Goldie Steinberg, a 10-year resident of Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, celebrates her 114th birthday this year. Goldie was born on October 30th, 1900, in Kishinev, Romania. An exuberant and welcoming individual, she is officially the 13^th-oldest person in the world and second-oldest in New York State and the oldest Long Island resident, according to the Gerontology Research Group.

Goldie immigrated to the United States at the age of 23, after her uncle offered her and her sister the opportunity. Then residing in Brooklyn, Goldie worked as a seamstress, sewing draperies and dresses. She met her husband, the late Phillip Steinberg, while a member of a society of Eastern Europeans. The couple moved to an apartment in Brooklyn and had two children. Ms. Steinberg is still active, spending her time watching the Yankees, knitting and helping out fellow residents. She has voted in every election since 1924, a total of 23 times. When asked about her secret to a long and healthy life, Goldie says, “My children keep me alive.”

Directions:  Sunrise Highway to Meadowbrook State Pkwy S towards Jones Beach. Take Exit M10 to merge onto Loop Parkway. Take the exit toward Long Beach. After 430 feet, merge onto Lido Boulevard. Continue onto East Park Avenue. Go 1.1 miles then turn left onto Long Beach Boulevard. Make a right onto East Beech Street and go 1.2 miles. Make a left onto Lindell Boulevard and then a right onto West Broadway. Grandell Rehabilitation & Nursing Center will be on the right-hand side.
