PHILADELPHIA - Oct. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- A local Delaware County couple is excited to bring in-home care services to seniors, intellectually disabled people and new mothers in the area through their new business, Home Helpers & Direct Link of Southwest Philadelphia.

Home Helpers is the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Direct Link is its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor, automated medication dispenser and vital signs monitoring units. Home Helpers & Direct Link of Southwest Philadelphia serves East wick, Bartram, Paschal, Southwest Philly and the surrounding communities.

This local franchise is owned by Sheila A. Carter and Mack L. Carter , Jr. Sheila has more than 20 years of experience working with pregnant women and new families through parenting and life skills, home visits and nutrition classes as well as four years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor working with people with intellectual disabilities. Although she retired in 2013, she was picked up to work part time as a nutrition educator at Penn State. Mack, a Police Lieutenant, has been with the force for 34 years.

The couple decided to open the business to help families in the community with in-home companion care because of their own life experiences and their combined backgrounds.

“When my sister-in-law got sick, I saw what the family went through to care for her. They did their best, but it was a challenge. Home Helpers is here to make that journey easier for other families. Whether you’re caring for a senior who needs overall companion care or you’re a new mom who needs a helping hand, our skilled and experienced caregivers are available to help,” Carter said.

Sheila will be leading the Home Helpers portion of the business and Mack, because of his police experience, will assist with Direct Link. The couple learned about Home Helpers & Direct Link through Sheila’s friend, who worked for a fellow Home Helpers & Direct Link franchise in town.

Home Helpers & Direct Link offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person’s individual needs. Services offered include companionship, laundry, light housekeeping, respite care, meal preparation and transportation as well as medication management and care management.

“I noticed that more seniors are in need of services including everything from in-home companion care to just rides to the doctor’s office or the grocery. Home Helpers was a great opportunity for me to bring these services to the community. Because of my background, I’m also very excited about working with new mothers. People forget that, especially if you’re on your own, or you have to go back to work, or you already have kids, caring for a newborn and for yourself can be a real challenge,” Sheila said.

When you work with Home Helpers & Direct Link, each individual client receives services tailored to meet their specific needs by caregivers who become an extension of their family. Home Helpers’ full-range of home care services empower clients to live healthier and more rewarding lives in the privacy, safety, and comfort of their own homes.  Sheila and Mack also will be providing training for their staff to work with people with intellectual disabilities as well as new moms. The couple’s 21-year-old son Mack the 3rd also will be working with the business.

When they’re not working, Sheila and Mack are spending time with their son and 16-year-old daughter Maci. Sheila is active in the community and serves as the president of the volunteer fire department.
