GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Oct. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- (Garden City, NY, October 2014)  Exploring Critical Issues, the award-winning televised series conceived and hosted by Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott, will bring viewers a discussion by expert panelists on “Common Core State Standards,” to air for two weeks, beginning on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 10:00 PM.

“I am fortunate to again attract leading experts for our program,” said Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott.  “Our discussion on Common Core State Standards questions how they are different from previous Standards. What policy makers need to do to improve the opportunities for student learning and success in school? Will the Standards widen or narrow the gap in student achievement? And, what would be an ideal system of teacher accountability in relation to student achievement?”

Joining Dr. Scott are the Honorable Roger Tilles, New York State Regent; Dr. Jane Ashdown, Dean, Ruth S. Ammon School of Education, Adelphi University; Dr. Jack Bierwirth, Superintendent, Herricks Public Schools; and Dr. Craig Carson, Assistant Professor of English, Adelphi University.

“Common Core State Standards” airs in New York and Connecticut on Cablevision 29 (Long Island) and 137 (Connecticut and New York area outside of Long Island) and FiOS 296 (New York and Fairfield, CT). It will also stream simultaneously at www.telecaretv.org on the airdates and times as follows:

Sunday, November 9 and November 16 at 10:00 PM
Monday, November 10 and November 17 at 10:30 PM
Friday, November 14 and November 21 at 1:30 PM

Seen by nearly ten million households, Exploring Critical Issues has earned four Telly Awards (the cable equivalent of an Emmy) and the 2013 MarCom Gold Award for the Critical Regional Public Policy Issues (broadcast and cable) Campaign.  As the engaged University, Adelphi is proud to sponsor Exploring Critical Issues to provide scholars, advocates and other distinguished guests with a forum in which to examine important local, regional, national and global topics, including the environment, health, business, the arts, politics, law and government regulations.
