ALEXANDRIA, Australia - Oct. 27, 2014 - PRLog -- Margaret Chardiet aka Pharmakon has been awarded the Pitchfork Best New Music Award for her latest album “Bestial Burden”. The album is a voyage in clanking noise loops, sculpted feedback and experimental vocals that have been described as “caustic screaming”. With song titles such as ‘Body Betrays Itself’ and ‘Primitive Struggle’ this album is not for the squeamish. This album is a visceral, sonic body horror that is sure to shock and amaze.

New York City native Margaret Chardiet has been making power electronics/death industrial music under the name Pharmakon for over five years. As a founding member of the Red Light District collective in Far Rockaway, NY she has been a figurehead in the underground experimental scene since the age of seventeen.

Margaret has described the theme of her second LP for Brooklyn-based label Sacred Bones as “[a] desire to show the body as a lump of flesh and cells that mutate and fail you and betray you—this very banal, unimportant, grotesque aspect of ourselves.” The songs on this album were all written and recorded during a turbulent three month time period during which several fundamental life changes forced her to begin living in a completely new way and in a new space. She describes the lyrical themes of this album as being about, “Loss. Losing everything. Relinquishing control. Complete psychic abandon. Blind leaps of faith into the fire, walking out unscathed. Crawling out of the pit.”

Unlike other experimental projects, Pharmakon does not improvise when performing or recording. She is concise and exact; each song/movement is linear with a clear trajectory. Spin Magazine describes Pharmakon, stating “She glowers in measured silence as often as she shrieks, and every serrated tone cuts straight to the bone, a carefully calibrated interplay between frequency and resistance.” She describes her drive to make noise music as something akin to an exorcism where she is able to express, her “deep-seated need/drive/urge/possession to reach other people and make them FEEL something [specifically] in uncomfortable/confrontational ways.”

Superb reviews are flooding in for the new album by PHARMAKON which you can find a teaser for here and track "Body Betrays Itself" here plus HUGE features in this month's Dazed + Wire. These reviews of course don’t even take into how incredible and powerful this one-man-band's LIVE show is!
