The newsletter explored how manufacturers, particularly operations managers facing pressures to reduce labor costs, may consider hiring lower wage workers as part of a strategic process.  Too often, following the early retirement of knowledge-based shop floor workers, machine failures increase and the cost of downtime exceed the projected cost-savings.
