Oct. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- The actors who will be doing the silks are: Sean Gogan of Boynton Beach (Tarzan); Melissa Gonzalez of West Palm Beach (Terk); and Abby Scalici of Jupiter (Young Tarzan).

Aerial silk work has become not only a staple of the modern circus arena, but in many cases the main event.

Aerial dance is a term for a style of modern dance that uses hanging equipment, also called aerial apparatuses. The performers use, plus are supported by, silk cloth and are often suspended from trapezes. It is a difficult art that requires a high degree of practice, strength, flexibility, courage, and coordination.

This exciting aerial work is gaining in popularity and regular new innovative moves. Aerial dance training was formerly limited to Olympic level gymnasts and circus performers. Now offered to the public in special fitness and dance programs, students are urged to seek qualified professional trainers.  Some of the newest trends to develop from aerial silks are aerial yoga and aerial suspension training. The trio of young actors doing the silks in Disney’s Tarzan the Musical is training at Sunshine Circus Arts in Delray Beach. Their instructor is Lucy Nguyen, who has performed and taught at Florida State University's Flying High Circus, Callaway Gardens and the Circus Arts Institute in Atlanta.

Season tickets are on sale now and are $30-$37.50 per person, best seats in the theatre.
