Bar Patron Seriously Injured – Bar Management Knew of History of Criminal Activity
Fort Lauderdale, FL – Farmer, Jaffe, Weissing, Edwards, Fistos & Lehrman attorneys Brad Edwards and Gabriel F. Zambrano just obtained a $806,289.00 jury verdict for a bar patron who was violently attacked and left unconscious at Prince’s Beach Bar in Hollywood, Florida.

On October 17, 2012, patron Michael Barnes was attacked and seriously injured by assailants using pool cues while inside Prince’s Beach Bar. As a result of the attack, Mr. Barnes suffered severe and permanent injuries. Mr. Barnes alleged that he was attacked as a result of Prince’s Beach Bar’s failure to provide adequate security on their premises.

Barnes’ attorneys Brad Edwards and Gabriel F. Zambrano proved that the Bar’s negligence caused the damages to Mr. Barnes.

"Property owners must protect patrons against violence that is reasonable foreseeable,” said attorney Brad Edwards. “Michael Barnes was beaten nearly to death as a consequence of the failure of this Bar to fulfill its legal duties.”

“Our client was jumped by several men and beaten with fists and poolsticks, resulting in complex facial fractures requiring emergency surgery and requiring the implant of titanium plates and the wiring of his shut for two months,” added attorney Gabriel F. Zambrano. “Any time property owners lack the proper safety and security measures, they put their patrons at risk. We are just happy that Justice was done in this case.”

Prince’s Beach Bar contended that Mr. Barnes’s injuries did not result from the incident in the bar, but instead happened hours later at some other location. Multiple law firms had rejected this negligent security/premises liability case, but Farmer, Jaffe, Weissing Edwards, Fistos & Lehrman had the experience, vision and wherewithal to proceed to jury trial with no previous offers. The case was tried in the Circuit Court of the 17th Judicial Circuit in and for Broward County, Florida. A Broward jury awarded a verdict of $806,289.00.
