Janelle Haile started the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) in 1991, after having battled cancer for 11 years. She was only 34 when she was diagnosed in 1980, and there was very little known about the disease at that time. Many of the decisions she was forced to make about her health and treatment during that troubling period were made with little or no information. Through the course of her ordeal, Janelle vowed to educate women around the world about breast cancer, treatment options, and the value of early detection.

NBCF has provided consistent, compassionate support for hundreds of thousands of women dealing with this horrible affliction. The agency has a number of unique programs, such as the National Mammography Program, which provides free mammogram testing for women who are struggling financially, and then ensures that they receive proper medical attention if the tests render positive diagnoses. The organization also sponsors Beyond the Shock, an online Q&A resource for women who have recently been diagnosed, and MyNBCF, an online support group.

“NBCF has received a four-star rating for the last 11 years, has grown by 20% per year for the last nine years, and uses over 80% of revenue every year to support women in need.
