COLUMBUS, Ohio - Oct. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- In early October, Local 200 of the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes held at Ohio State University.

JDRF is an organization that uses scientific resources, regulatory influence, and a working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure type 1 diabetes.

Local 200 donated $200 and purchased 25 t-shirts on behalf of Trent Dune, son of apprentice and member of the Local 200 Member Action Committee Megan Wheeler, who has type 1 diabetes. Worn during the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, the t-shirts displayed the Local 200 logo and “Team Trent.”

“Diabetes effects over 29.1 million Americans and is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States,” said Mike Freeman, IKORCC Representative and Local 200 Recording Secretary. “Because one of our member’s sons has type 1 diabetes, it is very important that we do whatever we can to show our support for JDRF and everyone living with type 1 diabetes.”

“Having the Local’s support was so awesome. When I joined the UBC, I knew I had found a career - not just a job - that could support my family,” said Wheeler. “Local 200 has become a part of my extended family, and when I told them about the JDRF Walk, they jumped at the chance to help with a donation and by sponsoring Trent. I’m very grateful and proud to be a member of Local 200 and the UBC.”
