NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Oct. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- H. Gavin Long, a trial attorney for the Newport Beach personal injury law firm of Bisnar | Chase has been named as a member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), one of the most prestigious honors a lawyer can receive. ABOTA is one of the oldest and most respected trial lawyer organizations in the nation.

Membership is by invitation only and is restricted to attorneys who show a high level of integrity and professional achievement. Those who wish to become members are required to secure approval from 75 percent of their local chapter's executive committee and general membership as well as 75 percent approval from the national board.

"Gavin is absolutely worthy and deserving of this honor," said Brian Chase, senior partner at Bisnar | Chase. "He is a skilled trial lawyer who has won an overwhelming majority of cases he has taken to trial. An ABOTA membership is an honor given to about 1 percent of attorneys who practice law in this country. Gavin deserves to be a member of this elite group."

Long said he is deeply honored by this distinction. "It means a lot to me because it is not an honor that is easily bestowed on everyone. Bisnar | Chase has given me the opportunity to do the best work I can do. It has been tremendously satisfying for me to fight for the rights of injured clients and hold entities such as insurance companies accountable. I've had some challenging cases go to trial. But it's all the more satisfying when you are able to win those tough cases."

Long represents injured clients including those who have suffered serious or catastrophic injuries. In April, Long secured a favorable jury verdict for a client who suffered a shoulder injury in a street intersection car accident (Case Number M119273, Monterrey County Superior Court). In this case, Long fought the insurance company after refusing to pay the $15,000 policy limits to the injured woman questioning her need for shoulder surgery. The jury returned an excess verdict awarding $127,347 for the woman.

Long has a wide range of jury trial experience from murder to medical malpractice in both state and federal courts. In the last 18 months alone, Long has taken six personal injury cases to trial and has obtained verdicts above the defendant's offer in all six trials, beat the plaintiff's CCP 998 in three of the trials and got verdicts that exceeded the defendant's insurance policy in three of the trials. Long was also appointed last year to the Consumer Attorneys of California's (CAOC) Board of Governors and sits on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association.

Long, an Orange County native, graduated from the University of Southern California in 1996 and from Whittier Law School in 1999. He was a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for securing the highest grades in his study of Torts and Evidence.
