Oct. 26, 2015 - PRLog -- St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center (https://www.svsfcenter.org/) (SVSF) joins the Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC) in providing help to jobseekers on November 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The DESC Work Force One trailer will be at SVSF’s 20900 Grand River location in Detroit. The mobile resource room is packed with plenty of useful information for people who need help finding work.

“We provide free, personalized educational support for adults who want to get their GED, says Diane Renaud, Executive Director/CEO of SVSF. “So we’re happy to work with the DESC as our adult GED students take steps toward self-sufficiency.”

The DESC Work Force One trailer provides several resources:

·         DESC Information -- Fliers and information about the programs and services offered by the DESC.

·         Mobile Resource Room -- Onboard equipment so job seekers can continue their job search, create and edit resumes, apply for jobs online, etc.

·         Digital Library- Access to tutorials on work readiness and the technology basics of computer programs.

·         One-Stop Orientation -- Customers can complete the first step in registering with the DESC One-Stop Career Centers so they can receive Intensive services and workshops.

The DESC provides a competitive advantage for jobseekers, and assists employers in finding the skilled talent they need. It reports to the Detroit Workforce Development Board, which is established by the mayor of Detroit. The DESC receives the majority of its funding from the federal government.

St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center began in 1844 as St. Vincent’s Academy in Detroit, a kindergarten for orphaned children. The organization evolved through the years and moved to Farmington Hills, establishing an adoption/foster care residence for children. In 2006, when policies and the economy changed, the Center closed its residential doors, but wanted to continue to fulfill its mission of serving at-risk children and adults. Identifying the significant need, the Center returned to Detroit and its roots of education, and now provides free, personalized educational support for children and adults. These programs are designed to help build self-sufficiency skills for academic and employment success, personal achievement and dignity. Visit www.svsfcenter.org to learn more.
