Loughborough Optometrist Offers Private DVLA Vision Assessments For Car Drivers

LEICESTER, U.K. - Oct. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- With over 10 years of experience of providing DVLA vision assessment for car drivers, due to demand, Visual Answers optometrists will continue to offer this service to clients who wish to have their assessment carried out privately.

Previously, Visual Answers was one many thousands of competent independent optometrists all over the country that had been an accredited by the DVLA as a Drivers Assessment Centre (for over a decade), more recently, in an attempt to save money, the DVLA controversially awarded this national public contract exclusively to Specsvaers despite acknowledging that the Specsavers proposal DID NOT offer the highest quality or the widest reach in the UK. The proposal that did, was put forward by LOCSU (Local Optical Committee Support Unit), on behalf of independent opticians like Visual Answers and other multiple opticians such as Boots. LOCSU considered a legal challenge to the decision finally made by the DVLA.

‘It was surprising and very disappointing. We have had many concerned clients and other patients regarding this whole matter – many who were very unhappy at their experience having their assessment done at Specavers and wanted to have it done again with ourselves. Many have requested us to continue to offer this service privately. Those who wish to pay for their own DVLA assessment (£45) with ourselves, we will carry out the full assessment in the usual way and complete all paperwork and submit this to the DVLA (Swansea) in the normal way - something as we have done for years. This appraoch will also save the tax payer a few pennies too! Most of our patients and clients have stated that they would prefer to come to their local independent optometry practice to have their DVLA assessment as opposed to go to further away to a High Street chain’, said  Mohammed Bhojani Lead optometrist of Visual Answers in Loughborough.
