Follow on Google News | Trinity Boston Foundation Sponsors First Annual Sole Train 5K Community Fun RunTrinity Boston Foundation strengthens ties with Boston's youth through its Sole Train Fun Run. The Foundation's running program encourages youth to develop personal resiliency and discipline while developing a love for running.
The Fun Run will take place at the Jamaica Pond Perimeter Path in Jamaica Plain, Mass. On-site registration opens at 7:30 a.m; Race starts at 9 a.m. Entry fees: Youth (18 and younger) $20; Adults (19 and older) $30. (There will be a much smaller, free Fun Run for younger children as well.) Sole Train t-shirts are guaranteed for the first 300 5K Fun Run registrants. This community running event supports Sole Train:Boston Runs Together, one of Trinity Boston Foundation's programs designed to encourage youth to unlock opportunity and develop personal resources in overcoming the odds. Sole Train is a free, non-competitive, long distance running program based at Boston Public Schools and the Department of Youth Services. As youth learn the art of long-distance running, they also develop skills and habits that help realize their potential and accomplish personal goals. According to Sole Train Director, Jessica Leffler, “Training for a race like our Community Fun Run at the start of the new school year helps Sole Train participants jump into our running program with both feet, so to speak. Right away, the youth see what’s being asked of them and what they are capable of doing. This is a powerful generator of self-confidence and discipline, not to mention that it’s just a whole lot of fun.” Trinity Boston Foundation is a nonprofit organization that operates educational enrichment, character development and running programs for Boston’s youth as well as counseling services for youth and their families. In partnership, the Foundation builds communities that offer physical, emotional and spiritual well-being while strengthening health and cohesion across Boston. Rooted in the unique community of Trinity Church in Boston’s historic Copley Square, Trinity Boston Foundation has operated as a separately incorporated subsidiary since 2006. Trinity Boston Foundation programs are open to all. The Foundation honors and respects individuals of all faith traditions, including those with no faith tradition.
