Surprise your guests with nigiri: How to serve the Japanese delicacy

By: Bormioli Rocco

Oct. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Japanese food has been popular in the United States for many years and is still becoming increasingly popular. No surprise there: With a simple and quick preparation and careful selection of ingredients the Japanese cuisine wins over everyone. The most popular restaurants are surely sushi restaurants but dishes like nigiri available there can also be easily prepared at home.

Nigiri is basically sliced raw salmon or filleted shrimps with a molded ball of “sticky” sushi rice underneath. Often you'll find a dab of wasabi between the rice and fish.

As you can see this type of sushi is really easy to prepare at home! Few ingredients, no rolling...and eaten with your hands- simply the perfect finger food for an evening with friends!

The only thing you should consider is the planning ahead, as you have to buy the fish and the shrimps fresh and then freeze them for 48-72 hours (at least -31 degrees Fahrenheit) to kill any parasites (Anisakis). Alternatively you can have a look if there is a Japanese market close by and buy the fish there on the same day. Be carefull with fish in the shops that is labelled sushi grade. It is simply a marketing term, not enforced by the FDA in the US.

You can also use slices of tuna, sea bream, sea bass or other seafood according to your liking or offer different types. So how to you serve the nigiri? To present your homemade sushi we recommend to use plates that are a bit different, like transparent dinner plates (http://myhome.bormioliroccocasa.com/myhome/en/home/catalo...). Put a seaweed sheet on the plate, put some of the nigiri on it and add a little bowl of soy sauce.

We recommend the plates from the Eclipse collection from Bormioli Rocco. They have a great design and are made from high quality tempered glass: Perfect for many beautiful evenings with your friends.
