TORONTO - Oct. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- One of Canada’s leading airlines, Canadian North, has deployed web-based electronic invoicing from EchoVera, a provider of accounts payable automation solutions. The airline is using the technology to process, approve and schedule the 40,000 supplier invoices it receives annually. The technology is part of EchoVera’s PaletteArena Suite, called PaletteInvoice.

Ralf Leitner, President of Echovera, said, “Progressive airlines in Canada are joining what has been a huge trend in Europe, and that is moving away from paper invoices. Any paper or emailed invoice can be processed for less than the price of a cup of coffee - with fewer errors or misplaced documents. We also find CFOs are enjoying the visibility they get with our electronic invoicing solution – like knowing what their payables are in real time.”

Canadian North uses optical character recognition (OCR) to scan paper invoices, and intelligent layered PDF processing to import emailed invoices. Invoices are are then matched, coded and approved. The process can take less than 3 minutes for each.

Jeff MacPherson, Senior Financial Analyst for Canadian North, said: “Before the deployment of EchoVera’s PaletteInvoice solution, invoices received as PDF files had to be printed, approved and coded, before being passed to our accounts payable department for manual filing, all of which was extremely time-consuming and labour-intensive. Since the introduction of PaletteInvoice in January 2014, our processes have been significantly streamlined and are now far more efficient.”

“The biggest benefit we have gained from PaletteInvoice is transparency over accounts payable activity across the entire organization. We can see exactly where we are in terms of pending invoices, which is vital as we operate from three main offices which are located in different cities. With automated invoice processing, we also have much tighter control over operations and a greater ability to manage volumes of work.”

Additional benefits of electronic invoicing include:
• reduces the carbon footprint of all organizations using the technology
• curtails manual error as a result of paper handling
• provides savings on the cost of processing, sometimes by over 50%
