TUSTIN, Calif. - Oct. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Vancouver Island University (VIU) has revealed details of the new POS solution it recently installed across its Nanaimo Campus using the services of its solutions partner ITC Systems.  VIU has been an ITC Systems user for some time.

VIU felt it was time to take a hard look at the point- of-sale system it was using in its food service operations, which include two cafeterias, a table-service dining room and a conference catering facility. The POS system had been in use for 10 years and was not providing business visibility in terms of reporting and analysis that the University needed.  After reviewing a number of options, VIU selected a solution from ITC Systems comprising latest touchscreen POS terminals from J2 Retail Systems, Inc. on which to run new POS software from Volanté Systems.

Explains Melissa Townsend, Manager, Food Services at VIU: “We were looking for a point-of-sale system that would integrate with our inventory system.  Based on that, we felt the Volanté system which ITC supplies was the best fit.  When integration is complete, we will have detailed reporting that will be very exciting.”  An additional key driver for VIU was to select a system that would accept credit cards and debit cards as well as integrate with meal plans, gift cards and the ITC Campus Card.

To run the new software, ITC Systems recommended and deployed eight J2 225 terminals running Windows 7, together with cash drawers, printers and magnetic swipe readers. [The J2 225 is now known as Ninô]. Says Danny Trieu, Senior Software Support at ITC Systems, who was responsible for the project: “The J2 225 is a sleek, portable and powerful POS terminal that has all of the features you would expect in a POS and ones that suited VIU.”  Melissa Townsend agrees and adds: “The cost of ownership of our new hardware gives us a short ROI with loads of functionality.  We looked at other POS options but we are happy we chose the J2 225s.”

Danny Trieu worked on site for the installation and training programme.  Says Ms Townsend: “Having Danny here was a real bonus.  The help he gave us was exceptional. He made the whole process work smoothly and we were very happy to have his involvement.”

She continues: “Many of our staff have been with us for 20 years and were very used to our old system.  There was naturally some anxiety about bringing in something new but with just half an hour of training staff were completely at home.  The new system is a snap!”  Danny Trieu echoes her view: “The J2 hardware is user-friendly, reliable and easy to operate.  Staff are happy to have made the move to J2.”

Food service staff sign on using a secure, individual login ID.  The VolantéPOS System has a very intuitive interface and many extra features that meet all the requirements of Vancouver Island University.  It has a sophisticated architecture that enables the free-flowing sharing of information, while not compromising on security.    The system comes with a wide range of built-in reports as well as the opportunity to create customized reports.

The Volanté POS software is integrated with VIU’s its ITC Systems Multiplan Gold transaction management software from ITC Systems. Multiplan Gold replaces cash in campus food services. Account holders are able to buy meal plans as well as add funds to their campus cards through the web, 24/7.  The new POS also integrates with ITC Systems’ Multiplan Matrix Manager software that further provides administrators with device- and application-specific reports on the use of meal plans and campus cards.

Such is the success of the new POS solution that Vancouver Island University is looking to install it at its other campuses, in Duncan (http://www.cc.viu.ca/), Powell River (http://www.pr.viu.ca/) and Parksville-Qualicum (http://www2.viu.ca/parksville/index.asp).
