ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Oct. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Independent 8th District Congressional candidate Gwendolyn Beck today issued a challenge to Democrat Don Beyer and Republican Micah Edmond to hold a publicly televised debate the week before the November 4th General Election.

“The voters of the 8th Congressional District in Virginia deserve to hear from their candidates in a real debate format so they can compare and contrast their views on key issues.”

"As I have travelled extensively throughout the district these past few months, I’ve heard how people are genuinely concerned about issues such as the economy, healthcare, national security and the need to create jobs. What I also hear from the voters is a sense of real frustration about Congressional gridlock and the ability of our country to deal effectively with these issues.”

“Where does Don Beyer stand on these issues -- I don’t think very many people really know. What would Micah Edmond do if he was elected? I don’t think most voters really know. How will candidates work to end gridlock – voters want to know and hear about it from the candidates themselves.”

“I believe people are ready for a change and that an Independent candidate gives the people the best chance to end gridlock. We need to debate these important issues and talk about our differences and how we can end to gridlock to get our country back on the path to real prosperity.”

The debate could be sponsored by Newschannel 8, which covers a multitude of local Virginia issues. It could be conducted with a format that involves questions from reporters of Newschannel 8 as well as the Washington Post, the Alexandria Times and the Alexandria Gazette. A format could also include taking questions from individuals via Facebook. Details for the format could be worked out quickly if all candidates agree to the debate.
