PALO ALTO, Calif. - Oct. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- AllRest just filed its provisional patent at the USPTO for Opti-zzz™ .

Opti-zzz™ by AllRest: Breathe Better, Sleep Better.  An adaptable, smart mouthpiece for breathing comfortably throughout the night.

A unique mouthpiece for those who wish to improve breathing while sleeping

Lack of sleep leads to daytime fatigue.  And fatigue leads to car and workplace accidents, absenteeism, poor daytime performance, and sleep derived health conditions. Poor sleep quality is often the result from various dysfunctional breathing patterns.

The proprietary mouthpiece, Opti-zzz, has several interchangeable filters with different configurations that create the appropriate air resistance for exhalation and inhalation of carbon dioxide and oxygen.

Opti-zzz  improves sleep through a time tested mouthpiece.

Opti-zzz  is configured to fit comfortably in the mouth while sleeping.

Using Opti-zzz  is simple. First, soak the insert in clean water before inserting the filter into the mouthpiece. Next, place the mouthpiece in your mouth and go to sleep.

And the Opti-zzz  package comes in two configurations: (a) a well-designed mouthpiece with different filters that tailor the device to the user’s breathing habits, and (b) the Smart version: embedded within the mouthpiece, various sensors that measure oxygen, carbon dioxide, pulses, body temperature , acceleration/actimetry, airflow, and sound.  The Smart version integrates a Bluetooth® communications and processing/storage electronics to transmit the raw data for the various sleep index reports to the user’s smart phone or any other system.

When included with other electronic health platforms, Opti-zzz  Smart version allows each user to observe the bio-feedback and correlation between weight or other manageable conditions and sleep deprivation. Or the user can exchange filters to add an improvement with the same device.

Opti-zzz  Smart version:

·          Tracks physical indicators while breathing based on changes in airflow, oxygen/carbon dioxide, heart rate, snoring volume, and skin temperature,

·         Analyzes habits that contribute to breathing issues like your physical weight, oxygen intake, and sleeping positions,

·         Talks with your smartphone or computer to understand your conditions through your calendar, your location, and other available data.

How does it work?

The mouthpiece is designed to change the filters through the extension. In the filter assembly, either the filter grid insert or filter flap or both can be removed and replaced with different filter grids or filter flaps.  The filter grid insert and filter flap are designed to optimize the intake of oxygen and expelling of carbon dioxide.  For example, either the user obtains a different filter assembly having a different grid insert and filter flap or alternatively replaces the current grid insert and/or filter flap into the filter assembly.  In other words, the entire filter assembly can be replaced or just the grid and/or filter flap can be replaced. Optimizing carbon dioxide is important because it promotes homeostasis.  When carbon dioxide is out of balance, many health conditions can develop.

The filter flaps can vary on the required effort/resistance to inhale and exhale through them.  For example, “easy resistance filters” require less effort to inhale and exhale through the filter flaps and “difficult resistance filters” require more effort to inhale and exhale through the filter flaps.

The device has to be configured specifically for each user.  Not every user would need the same filter grids/filter flaps. Nor would the same filter flaps work for the same individual at all times.  For example, if a patient usually needed a certain resistance filter grid/filter flap but was suffering from a chest or head cold, that user may need to step down to an easier resistance filter flap during this time.  As another example, a user who has obtained an increased lung fitness over the course of treatment due to increased exercise and weight loss, may need to change to a different resistance filter flap.

Opti-zzz  obtains various biofeedback information from sensors within the mouthpiece and provides feedback based on the readings.  This feedback is reported to the user and/or the physician to provide guidance as to the appropriate resistance filter flap combination that should be employed.

Opti-zzz  connects to your iPhone or Android device via Bluetooth while charging. Download the app, connect the device and charge it.
