Follow on Google News | New Wild Ideas Community Conversation Series Premieres on October 22Feeding the Triangle: Increasing Access to Fresh Food and Farms
“Despite a growing Farm to Table movement across the country, farmland is still rapidly disappearing, especially in the fast-growing Triangle,” explains Katherine Baer, TLC Director of Conservation. “TLC is presenting this first wild ideas program as a way for professionals and the community to share and promote their solutions for feeding the Triangle as it continues to grow.” A renowned panel including Chef Amy Tornquist of Watts Grocery, farmer and educator Alex Hitt of Peregrine Farm, and Jared Cates of the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association will share their wild ideas for the future of food and farms. There will be plenty of room for discussion over free, locally sourced food from Chef Tornquists’ Sage and Swift Gourmet Catering and beer donated by Lonerider Brewing Company following a Q&A session with the panelists. Created by Triangle Land Conservancy, this wild ideas event is generously sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and hosted by RTP Foundation at the Headquarters - 12 Davis Drive, RTP. “Unfortunately, hunger and access to healthy food choices continue to be persistent problems throughout the Triangle region” adds TLC Executive Director Chad Jemison. “It is our hope this event, which ties into World Food Day (October 16) and National Food Day (October 24), will help to draw attention to food access problems, the delicious joys and challenges of the local food movement, and how innovative conservation efforts can be part of the solution.” This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited, so please register at http://www.triangleland.org/ End
