This long-running festival offers the opportunity to compete in making the best smoked mullet. Second and third place will also be awarded in the competition, with each winner receiving a plaque and bragging rights. In addition to the abundance of smoked mullet available for tasting, the Terra Ceia VIA will be offering smoked mullet dinners, mullet cakes, homemade BBQ pork, hot dogs, beer, refreshments, freshly baked desserts and more. Located in the beautiful waterfront Seabreeze Park, the Terra Ceia Mullet Smoke-Off doesn’t only feature the best smoked mullet in Florida - guests can also take part in the infamous Mullet Toss, in which participants take turns tossing mullet 20 yards towards targets including a toilet bowl. Half of the proceeds from the mullet toss go to the Terra Ceia VIA, with the winner of the competition receiving the other half. “The Mullet Smoke-Off is one of our most loved events, and it’s not hard to see why,” said Janet Thoreson, Smoke Off Chairperson. “It’s a great way to show off the beautiful place we live and to raise awareness about the needs of our historical community, all while having a good time. All ages are welcome - it’s going to be great fun for families, friends, and anyone who loves a good smoked mullet!” Attendees can also test their skills in a cast net throwing contest while listening to live music performances by Soul Purpose, a roots rock and reggae band originating from Sarasota, FL. Admission is free for all attendees, with event proceeds going to benefit the efforts to maintain the historic meeting hall that is on the National Registry of Historic Buildings.
