AUSTIN, Texas - Oct. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Who believes anonymous defamation postings at online portals like RipOffReport and other such websites?  Postings like “This guy is a pedophile” or “This CEO is a con artist and did some jail time” or “This business is a rip-off” don’t have much credibility if they are done by people anonymously.

“Luckily most people and customers on the web don’t pay attention to such attacks, but somehow, somewhere, these posts leave uncertainty and doubt in their minds and this can hurt your future,” said Michel Nilles – CEO of Webneeds. He added “We noticed an increasing number of queries from innocent victims of such defamatory campaigns during the past 18 months searching for help at WebNeeds.net.”

So, what happens when someone in your industry - a competitor, a former employee or just an anonymous weakling - starts an online smear campaign against you or your business?

“Sometimes competitors try to slander the good reputation of a business or even its CEO/Owner personally to bring them down,” said Mr. Nilles. He continued “Sometimes even we are targeted in such malicious campaigns just because we help our customers get out of it.”

“I remember some time back we managed to turn a smear campaign against a financial company and its CEO, back on the individual who initiated the campaign,” stated Mr. Nilles. “The guy anonymously spread the word on the internet that the financial institute was managing the finances of a certain ‘Osama Bin Laden’ and his terrorist organization. At that time this was a very hot topic and the defamer used keywords around this subject to his advantage to reach a maximum impact on the web. Not having had enough, the guy also attacked the CEO of the company suggesting he was a pedophile and served time in jail.”

“With different tactics we were able to help the company and the CEO clear their name and we turned the slanderer in to the authorities,” added Mr. Nilles. He concluded “Now the offender is serving real jail time after being convicted and the CEO was granted a few million euro in damages by the court.”

Anonymous slander can cost the initiator of a smear campaign “BIG TIME” so if you’re thinking about attacking people online, think twice.
