LAS VEGAS - Oct. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Girls in Tech Las Vegas has developed a computer series called “She’s Geeky” where members of the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada can learn skills ranging from computer basics and graphic design to programming and online safety. The classes give girls the chance to earn badges, designed by Girls In Tech Las Vegas, for Webdesign, Blogging, Computer Basics, Internet Safety, Idea Tech and Graphics.

Co-Managing Director, Christina Aldan said "We are now in our third season of teaching these classes and have found such a great response, that we added 2 more classes: 'Internet Safety' which teaches the girls how to protect themselves online and 'Idea Tech,' which teaches girls how to formulate an idea that solves a problem, then pitch their idea."

Girls In Tech is a global non-profit organization focused on women’s innovative and entrepreneurial achievements in technology. Founded by Adriana Gascoigne in February 2007 and headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Girls in Tech is an organization that was born out of a need to provide a place for women to cultivate ideas around their careers and business concepts involving technology and entrepreneurship. The Las Vegas chapter looks to expand on that by promoting the collaboration, growth, and success of women in the technology sector. The “She’s Geeky” program, designed specifically for Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, has been so successful it's now being offered multiple times throughout the year and has been adapted for the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada. This past summer, as part of the Girl Scouts Summer of STEM day camp series, a full week of "She's Geeky" computer related activities and discussions took place where the girls learned hands-on lessons for Word, Powerpoint, Graphics and more. They also had the chance to listen to various speakers on related topics.

“Girls in Tech, Las Vegas has built a great friendship and partnership with the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada,” Co-Managing Director, Amber Bradley explained. “It started back in 2012 where members of GITLV had volunteered for a summer session with the Girl Scouts. From there we grew to understand the lack of STEM programing that the Girl Scouts had in Las Vegas, and we found an opportunity to fill that gap.”

Spring classes will be announced in 2015. For more information visit the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada website at http://www.girlscoutsnv.org
