PRSA Launches California Gold Coast Chapter Meeting to Feature Keynote by Ventura County Star Editor

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Oct. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- After a year of preparation and paperwork, a Public Relations Society of America chapter has been formed to serve Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. The newly launched California Gold Coast Chapter will hold its inaugural meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 7 at The Tower Club, 300 E. Esplanade Drive, Oxnard. The luncheon, which is open to the public, will feature a keynote address by Ventura County Star Editor John Moore.

The California Gold Coast Chapter was awarded its national charter in August and plans to hold monthly professional development and networking events for PR professionals of all levels.

“PRSA is a highly regarded organization that stresses professionalism within the field and is a great educational resource for people to stay up-to-date with their skills, which is especially important as we transition to this digital era,” said Jean Kelso Sandlin, assistant professor at California Lutheran University and founding chapter president. “I’m excited to have John Moore kick off our chapter by starting the conversation about the future of journalism and how we as PR professionals can participate in the process.”

An award-winning journalist, Moore joined the Ventura County Star in 1998 as county editor and rose through the paper’s editorial ranks. In 2011, he was named editor. In this role, he oversees the vision and direction of the paper’s print and online divisions. At the meeting, Moore will also introduce special guest Shanna Cannon, the new publisher of the Ventura County Star.
