Follow on Google News | Local Optometrist Receives Two Prestigious Awards from the North Carolina State Optometric SocietyDr. Jill Bryant is the North Carolina State Optometric Society's Young Optometrist of the Year
The Young Optometrist of the Year Award is given to an optometrist who has been in active practice for less than ten years and who has shown remarkable leadership skills when serving their profession, their patients and their community. The John D. Robinson Clinical Excellence Award is given to a North Carolina optometrist who has exemplified excellence in the clinical practice of primary eye care and ophthalmic medicine. Dr. Bryant received a Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and a Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She completed a residency at the Dorn Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, SC. Dr. Bryant practices in Durham at the Duke Eye Center where she serves as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and the Director of Contact Lens. She sees patients for comprehensive eye examinations, urgent eye care and contact lens fittings. She specializes in challenging contact lens fittings and devotes a portion of her clinic to fitting patients with advanced corneal or ocular surface disease. Dr. Bryant lectures on topics ranging from ocular disease to complex contact lens fitting. Dr. Bryant served as a NCSOS Trustee for three years and held the position of Secretary-Treasurer for 2013-2014. She was elected Vice-President of NCSOS this year. Dr. Bryant is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry as well as the Scleral Lens Society. She serves as a Clinical Examiner for the North Carolina Board of Optometry and as a Committee and Council member for the Continuing Professional Development in Optometry examination through the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. She also serves on the Gas Permeable Lens Institute Advisory Board. Dr. Bryant just completed a three year term on the Durham County Board of Health. Dr. Bryant is married to Dr. Steve Bryant and they have one son, Nathan. The North Carolina State Optometric Society represents North Carolina optometrists who provide primary eye care services. The vision of NCSOS is protecting and improving eye health and vision in North Carolina. The mission is advocating for optometrists so they can best serve eye health and vision needs in North Carolina. End
