The General Motors Foundation will join the Foundation for Educational Development Inc. (FEDI) in hosting the Girls in Technology Pre College Program during the 2014 Women of Color STEM Conference in Detroit, MI at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.

The Girls in Technology Pre College Program will consist of over two hundred female high school students from Detroit area high schools. Students will participate in a full-day technology workshop that is designed to provide hands-on activities, technology programs, and mentorship opportunities with successful previous Women of Color Conference winners in the technology fields. STEM professionals will also visit local Detroit high schools to speak to and motivate the students about STEM careers.

The General Motors Foundation will support the program’s three goals: (1) spark excitement and buzz around working in the technology field, (2) expose students to professional subject matter experts who will share, lessons, ideas, best practices, and innovative approaches related to information technology and cyber security fields, and (3) conduct career day activities with hands-on experience designed to engage, explore, amuse and create interest in what technology brings to our world.
