Follow on Google News | Cool Cats at AWLQ's Gold Coast Shelter thanks to AC-TEC ServicesAC-TEC Services has just completed installing air conditioning in the cat quarantine building at the Animal Welfare League’s Coombabah shelter.
By: AC-TEC Services AWLQ Spokesperson Brooke Whitney says, “The air-conditioning units are a godsend for our sick cats. Our ward gets extremely hot in the summer time which puts added stress on our already sick cats. Being able to keep the temperature regulated means our cats can focus on getting healthy’ which means they spend less time in care and are able to be adopted faster.” AWLQ’s Coombabah site alone had 1282 patient stays last financial year. These cats and kittens were under vet care or quarantine for various conditions but predominantly cat flu. It can take anywhere between 2-6 weeks for the cats/kittens to recover. Although the AWLQ have foster homes to help with recovery, the cats/kittens stay onsite in care for their initial treatment and daily vet checks to make sure they are responding to treatment and their recovery is on track. Grant Richardson, AC-TEC Services General Manager says, “The AWLQ is a charity close to myself and my wife since the adoption of our family dog “Boss” 4 years ago. The work of staff and volunteers at the AWLQ often goes unrecognised so we were pleased to donate and assist them with this project."
