ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Oct. 6, 2014 - PRLog -- SARC (Sarcoma Alliance for Research Through Collaboration) has named Denise Reinke president and CEO of the non-profit organization that works to facilitate collaboration among the community of researchers, physicians, and pharma/biotech companies striving to achieve breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.

Reinke has been with SARC since its inception in 2002 and has served as president since 2007. Her experience as an oncology and sarcoma nurse practitioner along with clinical trials experience, knowledge of pharmaceutical and business operations, and dual Master’s degrees uniquely position her to lead the organization as president and CEO.

“We’re pleased to recognize Denise with this appointment of CEO. She has taken on increasing responsibilities over the years as president and led the organization forward as a respected and collaborative resource in the field of sarcoma research,” said Mac Tichenor, Chair of the Board at SARC. “Through Denise’s leadership, SARC has a unique ability to promote collaboration among the sarcoma research community through scientific rigor, credibility, and a level of efficiency that ensures things get done.”

Looking forward, as president and CEO, Reinke’s role is to provide strategic direction and ensure the organization’s mission is put into operation every day by SARC staff and collaborators. Additionally, Reinke plays a key role in bringing together the scientific leadership, research platform, infrastructure, and support that are essential to SARC’s work.

Denise earned her Master of Science from the University of Michigan’s Rackham Graduate School, and her MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Even with her responsibilities at SARC, given her commitment to patients, she will remain committed to serving patients with a limited clinical practice, which enhances her understanding of the impact of sarcoma on patients and families.

SARC was founded in 2002 through the vision of Dr. Laurence Baker and developed collaboratively with the leadership of the founding Board members, Drs. Robert Benjamin, Robert Maki, Lee Helman, and George Demetri. Dr. Baker served as the Executive Director and Chairman of SARC through 2011. SARC’s scientific platform is established by leaders who are recognized experts in sarcoma research, and the organization’s strategy is guided by the president and CEO in collaboration with its board of directors.
