TORONTO - Oct. 6, 2014 - PRLog -- Under the distinguished patronage of the Caribbean Consular Corps, the Dance Caribe Performing Company presents Retrospection – Then & Now from October 19th to 25th, 2014 at various locations across the Greater Toronto Area!

In celebration of their 25th anniversary, the award winning Dance Caribe Performing Company has put together a spectacular presentation for people of all walks of life to enjoy.  Director / Choreographer and Harry Jerome Award recipient Martin Scott-Pascall and Associate Director Richard Lewis, alongside Dance Caribe Performing Company will showcase a mélange of dances unique to the Caribbean, performed in traditional and contemporary styles.  This dance troupe will take you on a journey highlighting 25 years of their memorable repertoire, performed by some of the best artisans in the fields of dance, choreography, music and costumes.

In addition to their Retrospection – Then & Now presentation, Dance Caribe is honored to share their good news that they have been chosen to work with Cirque du Soleil on the opening and closing ceremonies of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.  This is a first for a distinguished member of the Caribbean community!

Retrospection – Then & Now will be staged in three repertoire suites, a world premiere and one full-length ballet presentation.

WORLD PREMIERE

BELLE FEST – BEL AIR:An elegant folk dance celebrating the mixed richness of our French Creole and African culture.

REPERTOIRE SUITE I

IN FOCUS: A thanksgiving suite offeringa mix of spirituals & modern contemporary dance.

FULL-LENGTH

RETROSPECTION...THEN & NOW: A collection of pieces frompast productions - ah little bit of this, ah little bit of that.

REPERTOIRE SUITE II

TOUTE MONDE TOUTE BAGIE:A collection of mixed of folk dances from Africa to the Caribbean, highlighting Latin, French & Afro-Caribbean cultures. The suite is done in its traditional and contemporary styles.

REPERTOIRE SUITE III

TROPICAL REVUE: A colorful, spectacular blend of Calypso - traditional pieces denoting the beauty, richness and spirit of the carnival, from the beat of the drums to the rhythms of the Steelpan & Calypso Music.

DCPC has enjoyed the support of local audiences for all of their major productions and promises to deliver the exciting performances that local audiences have come to know, love and expect. A stellar cast of performers will include Dance Caribe core dancers; direct fromTrinidad & Tobago drumming director, Roger Pascall and the Frontline Drumming Company; USA guest dancer & Associate Director, Richard Lewis; Toronto’s Extraordinary Steel Pannist, Earl La Pierre Jr.; six-time Canadian Calypso Monarch, Macomere Fifi, and Hamilton Alexander (the Web). The Gala will feature Grammy Award winner, Anslem Douglas with Dick Lochan as M.C. Some of the most elaborate and creative costumes & sets will come from Martin Scott-Pascall and Debbie Minott.

October 21st 2014, at 9:30 am, and 1:00 pm: Performances dedicated to Schools children at the CHINESE CULTURAL CENTRE located at 5183 Sheppard Ave. E. Scarborough. Admission $25.00
