Washington Area Women’s Foundation Honors ‘Women Investing in Women’ at Annual Luncheon

2014 Leadership Luncheon to Feature Winners of Visionary Awards

WASHINGTON - Oct. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- WHAT: Milestones like The Shriver Report, the 50th anniversary of the War on Poverty and the highly publicized minimum wage and ongoing equal pay discussions all point to an eagerness and need for societal change. According to recently released new Census data, the number of women living in poverty remains at historically high levels.* Washington Area Women’s Foundation mobilizes the community to improve access to resources that help lift women and their families out of poverty and chart a path to prosperity.

Washington Area Women’s Foundation is the only public foundation solely dedicated to transforming the lives of women and girls in the Washington region. At the annual Leadership Luncheon, the Foundation will educate the community about the unique challenges faced by low-income women and girls, and share inspiring stories of how families and communities are transformed when women and girls thrive.

Additionally, the Foundation will honor a group of Visionary Award winners—local trailblazers whose efforts to improve the lives of women and girls have made a difference in the lives of thousands.

The event will also raise funds to invest in work that improves the economic security of women and girls and eradicates poverty in our region. Attendees will include approximately 1,000 members of the philanthropic, business, nonprofit, legal and policy communities.

WHEN: Thursday, October 23, 2014, Noon to 2:00 p.m.

WHERE: Grand Hyatt Washington, 1000 H Street, NW
